Dr. Michael A. Soderstrand, Ph.D.
Professor Retired, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
University of California, Davis
For more than six decades, Prof. Soderstrand's academic career has been closely associated with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Davis. During that time he has served as educator, researcher, mentor, and professor, teaching thousands of students while contributing to the department's growth and international reputation.
Among his professional service activities, Prof. Soderstrand organized the 1997 IEEE International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS) in Sacramento, co-sponsored by the IEEE and the UC Davis Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The conference brought together more than 500 researchers from around the world, making it one of the best-attended MWSCAS conferences in the symposium's history.
Before joining the UC Davis faculty, Prof. Soderstrand spent six years as both an undergraduate and graduate student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC Davis. During that time he was active in campus radio station KDVS and helped lead the transition from a carrier-current station serving only the campus to a licensed FM station broadcasting throughout the Sacramento metropolitan area.
